It is a valley, but it is also a sanctuary, a frontier, and a refuge where you can reconnect and escape the city. You can read, hike, climb, sit down for a meal, go cycling, toast with friends, and then sleep until tomorrow without a care in the world. This is our idea of the mountains.
While you're out and about, you'll encounter ibex, chamois, marmots, and perhaps even a bearded vulture. If you look up, you'll see the Grivola, the Ciarforon, the Herbétet, the Tresènta, and many other peaks, all the way to the spectacular Nivolet Pass. And, of course, there is a special four-thousand-meter peak up here: the Grand Paradis (4,061m), a rite of passage for mountaineers from all over the world.
We could have sent you a photo, a voice note, or shared our location. We could have created an AI-generated video in seconds. But we decided we would rather invite you here, to our valley.
Established in 1922, Gran Paradiso National Park is Italy's oldest nature reserve. It covers approximately 70,000 hectares across the Aosta Valley and Piedmont, with the goal of studying ecosystems and preserving biodiversity.
Since 1856, the Valsavarenche area has been a Royal Hunting Reserve, established by King Victor Emmanuel II to protect the ibex. In 1922, the reserve was donated to the Italian state to become Italy's first national park.
You can arrive by car from Aosta or Courmayeur by following the road to Introd until you reach the junction for the Rhêmes Valley. Follow the sign to the left, and you are ready to enter our valley. You can set your route using Google Maps.
The Proloco and local associations organize numerous events throughout the seasons: concerts, sports activities, cultural festivals, and initiatives dedicated to sharing the value of Valsavarenche. Discover all the events on our calendar.

Valsavarenche is part of the Aosta Valley’s Alta Via 2, a spectacular hiking route that spans several valleys. You can reach us from the Sella Refuge (Cogne) or from Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, arriving in Eau Rousse. Check the official website to plan your stop in our valley.
Espace Trail is the project linked to the Valsavarenche Trail Sauvage, the mountain running competition held annually in Valsavarenche between September and October. Visit the official website to discover all the trails, download route data, and learn more about the initiative.

Let's go skiing!

Here in Valsavarenche, you can ski on well-groomed trails and uncrowded areas nestled in the woods near our villages: the perfect stay for cross-country skiing or starting a ski mountaineering adventure on the Gran Paradiso massif. The Degioz trail (1 km) is illuminated every Thursday evening for a magical night ski.

Managed by Gran Paradiso National Park, the Water and Biodiversity Centre in Rovenaudoffers an engaging exhibition dedicated to research on mountain freshwaterecosystems. Its mission is to help protect the Eurasian otter, a species oncenative to the valley of Valsavarenche.
